About me and how I work

I believe therapy is a collaborative effort between two (or more) people with their own agency, and most effective when the therapeutic relationship allows you to be authentic and vulnerable. My job is to create a space where you feel comfortable, or comfortable with the discomfort of, being witnessed and connected to me, yourself, and others. And if we’re not a good fit, no hard feelings. I can help you find a better fit.

I primarily work with neurodivergent, LGBTQ+ adults of color, though occasionally work with adolescents, in an individual setting, with only the occasional couples or family session for established clients. I center marginalized people in my work because of my interest in our collective liberation, and in that, try to take an abolitionist, non-carceral approach to counseling. I am kink- and sex worker-allied, and COVID cautious. I wear a respirator in in-office sessions.

Outside the office, I enjoy playing with cats, crocheting, and studying TCM. I am currently studying Vietnamese and Chinese in order to eventually provide services in those languages, but could probably only practice in Vietglish at this time. Be aware, my western and Chinese zodiac charts are both very fire heavy, and that energy and sometimes even brusqueness shows up in session on occasion. Please also note that I curse in sessions.

Education, training, work history

I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology at West Virginia University with minors in math and women’s and gender studies. I earned my master’s in clinical mental health counseling from Sam Houston State University. I have interned at West Oaks Hospital’s inpatient and outpatient facilities. I worked at re:MIND Depression and Bipolar Support as an associate and the The Feelings Healers as an associate and fully licensed counselor before starting my own practice.

I have training in various therapeutic modalities, notably eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, the four blinks version of flash technique, and expressive arts therapy, though inner child/parts work and somatic experiencing make frequent appearances in my work. If desired, I also bring various esoteric or folk traditions into our sessions, including tarot, Chinese astrology/bazi, and Catholic mysticism. I believe each of these schools of knowledge allows us to gain a more whole cognitive and embodied understanding of ourselves, something I find quite important to healing.
